Birthday ideas

Ok, I have had Ethan's birthday party theme picked out for quite some time now. The Best little boy's birthday party idea hit me like a linebacker when Ethan was about 2 months old and I have been awaiting the day of that party ever since. (not that I am ready for my last baby boy to be 1, but I am really excited about this party! ha!). Ethan's birthday is November 30th and with me (and the rest of my family) being such avid Mississippi State fans, I thought how BRILLIANT would it be to have an Egg Bowl Birthday party for Ethan's first birthday! (who knows, this might become an annual thing. hehe!)
My only problem is, I am having trouble thinking of cake ideas and food ideas. I am going to attempt to make his cake but I want something besides a white sheet cake with an "M-State" logo on it. I am making little football and dogbone shaped cookies so I wouldn't want to do that for the cake. I would love a creative idea for the main cake! Please leave a comment with your ideas on cakes, food and decorations! I would love to hear them!

Sweet as Candy

This little 7 month old (well, almost 8 months! ack!) has got to be the sweetest little boy on the planet! He's my hugger, my snuggler and probably one of the biggest "mama's boy" in Alabama and I am loving every minute of it. As you know, this sweet boy has an older brother and sister, whom I love equally and are just as sweet, but I think Ethan's personality is just a little softer and more tender than, say, his older brothers full power, gung ho, personality! (And thank goodness, because as much fun and unpredictable and exciting as being Logan's mother is, I don't think I can handle 2 just like him!).
Ethan is now pulling up on things, pretty much every chance he gets. I even went to get him from his bed this morning and after his morning nap and both times he was standing in his crib! It brought tears to my eyes. My little baby is growing up just a tad too fast!
And who can't resist those chubby legs in those adorable Babylegs!

Happy Birthday, Mimi!!

Brian's mother (Mimi) had her "22nd" birthday on Wednesday (that's how many cupcakes I brought so we said that's how old she's turning) and we celebrated that on Saturday. After lunch, we all went over to Tim and Sherry's house and celebrated by doaning crowns and septors and gathering around the table and feasted on Mimi's flower garden cake!

For Mimi's party, I made these brightly colored cookies and cupcakes. They were a lot of fun to make and they tasted soooo good! In fact, I wish I had one right now...

But anyway, we all had a great time celebrating another year of Mimi. Thank you Mimi for letting us celebrate your "day" with you!

We are so lucky to have you as a mom, mother-in-law, and a Mimi! You wear all those crowns well!!

A Little Risky Business

We are having a slow Friday, so in order to add a little fun to our day without getting out in the extreme heat, I put socks on the kids and let them slide "Risky Business" Style on our hardwood floors. Logan channeled his inner Tom Cruise (you know, before the nose job and Scientology) and slide and danced to the music playing. (Mackenlee did this as well and I got pictures of her but she is missing her pants and I don't want to put that out there for the whole blog world to see, so you are just going to have to picture it! ha!)

I mean, I can just hear Bob Seger in my head. "da da da dadada du! da da da dadada du! Just get those old records off the shelf!..."

One of these days, he is going to be so mad at me for putting these pictures out for everyone to see but I personally think that they would be perfect for showing his girlfriend on his first date...

...especially this one. Where he is doing his very best Elvis impersonation!

Wildlife at the Lake

Whenever we go visit my parents, we see all sorts of wildlife. The kids love watching them through binoculars and seeing them in their natural habitat.

Which can sometimes mean so pretty creative acrobatics. The squirrels can get pretty creative when trying to get the nectur from the humingbird feeder. Whether it's stretching from the tree or hanging upside down from the hook, they do what it takes to get to that feeder!

Sweet Celebrations!

This weekend is sure to be a busy weekend for everyone in our wonderful country. I know that our family has a weekend that is packed with lots of fun! My longtime BFF, Katie and her son are traveling into town today and I am so excited to get to see her and Cooper. With all the events planned, I thought that I could practice my cookie decorating. I'm going to be making some football cookies for Ethan's Egg Bowl birthday party (he was born Nov. 30th. Perfect for any MSU fan, right?).
I found this sugar cookie recipe that I decided to give a try. After several hours of standing over each cookie, piping and flooding the icing onto the cookies I called Brian in to look at them. I thought they turned out pretty cute and he agreed. We then picked out the worst ones and ate them and they were pretty good! I am going to tweek the recipe a little to make the cookie a little more softer and smoother, but other than that, they were pretty good!! I will be trying some more cookies tonight so hopefully, that will be THE recipe!
I hope you all have a wonderful 4th of July!
